Are you wondering what’s the best age to take kids to Disney? As a Disney travel agent and a single mom who’s been bringing her son since he was a baby, I can tell you: every age is filled with magic in its own way.
Our Disney journey began when my son was just 11 months old. I flew from Florida to California, just the two of us, while my family attended a course nearby. It was my first flight alone with a baby, and honestly, I was nervous. But the kindness of the people on the plane, and how well my son managed it, made me believe we could do anything.
We picked up our rental car, drove to the hotel, and what was supposed to be just me and my baby heading to Disneyland quickly turned into a full family trip (because let’s be honest who can resist Disney?).
Then came the moment I’ll never forget.
My son saw Mickey Mouse for the first time. His little body lit up with excitement, and he took his very first steps trying to reach him. Mickey was patient, sweet, and welcoming, just like the Disney magic I had always believed in. Moments later, he saw Pluto, his favorite, and he waddled over, determined to give him a hug. I still tear up just thinking about it.
He may not remember that trip, but I do. And we look at photos together, laugh at the stories, and celebrate it as the beginning of something special.

Since then, Disney has become our yearly tradition, sometimes two or even three times a year. Now that he’s 7, every trip is a new experience. He plans rides, gets excited about character autographs, and lights up with the same magic I saw when he was a baby.
One of the traditions we’ve started is spending Christmas at Disney, just the two of us. At first, I was worried it might feel lonely. But instead, it turned out to be one of the most heartwarming holidays we’ve ever had. We sat together, looked back at old trips, and he shared memories I didn’t even know he remembered, like hugging Donald when he was 4, or how he insisted on riding Dumbo twice in a row.
These years go by so fast. I know one day he’ll tell me three Disney trips a year is “too much,” but for now, I’m soaking up every second. We save together, plan together, and dream together. Disney isn’t just a vacation for us—it’s a scrapbook of our time as a team.
So What Is the Best Age to Take Kids to Disney?
- Babies & Toddlers (0-2): Magical firsts. Cuddles with characters. Stroller naps during parades.
- Preschoolers (3-5): Wide-eyed wonder. First rides. Pure joy at every turn.
- School-Aged (6-9): Character autographs, pin trading, planning days with Genie+.
- Tweens & Teens: Big thrills, snack adventures, and deeper bonding moments.
There’s no perfect age, only perfect moments. The magic isn’t in how old they are; it’s in the memories you create.
